Autor dokonuje przeglądu badań skoncentrowanych na szukaniu współzależności pomiędzy występowaniem aleksytymii (jako cechy i jako stanu) a zaburzeniami jedzenia (anoreksją i bulimią psychiczną). W przytoczonych badaniach brały udział zarówno osoby z zaburzeniami jedzenia (nastolatki i dorosłe kobiety) jak i rodzice pacjentek. Zgodność wyników wielu cytowanych badań wskazuje, zdaniem Autora na obecność aleksytymii jako cechy u osób z zaburzeniami jedzenia.

Summary

Eating disorders are of complex aetiology. Disturbances of early relations with caregivers are one of its elements, resulting in later disordered affect regulation. The theories concerning disorders of affect regulation focus on alexithymia research. Thus a review of literature published in the years 1993-2005 on links between alexithymia and eating disorders was carried out.

Eating disordered patients were more alexithymic than normal controls, though differences between them were only in the first and second factor of alexithymia. Alexithymia is a trait, however it may occur also as a state phenomenon. The theories of alexithymia aetiology require further research in which the theory of attachment may be a helpful perspective.
