Autorki opisują wyniki badania zależności pomiędzy symptomami depresji i lęku a poczuciem umiejscowienia kontroli u kobiet narodowości polskiej i francuskiej z problemem jadłowstrętu psychicznego. Metody badawcze to: Szpitalna Skala Lęku i Depresji Zigmonda i Snaitha oraz Skala Poczucia Umiejscowienia Kontroli Levensona.

Summary. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implications of depression and anxiety disorders and self-control for Polish and French women with eating disorders.

Method. The study involved 62 patients with eating disorders diagnosed according to ICD-10 and DSM IV criteria, and a control group consisting of 117 students. The study methods included the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale by Zigmond and Snaith (1983) and the Internal Powerful Others and Chance Scale by Levenson (1981).

Results. Depression and anxiety disorders and the belief in chance were significantly lower, and internal locus of control was significantly higher in the Polish anorexic patients as compared to French anorexic patients. Within the Polish anorexic group, depression disorders correlated significantly with the belief in chance. Polish anorexic patients experienced significantly more external locus of control and believed less in chance than normal Polish controls. French anorexic patients experienced significantly more depression and anxiety disorders than normal French controls.

Conclusion. The findings support the notion that depression and anxiety disorders and defective experience of control are important factors in the psychopathology of adolescent anorexic Polish and French females patients.
